🇬🇧 Tetsuo Harada (原田 哲男, born August 25, 1949, Niitsu, Niigata, Japan) is a living Japanese artist based in France, well known for his monumental sculptures usually made of granite or marble. He came to global acclaim for his "Earth Weaving" pacifist theme, symbolically connecting nations in fraternity with stone links. In his long and prolific career, he has explored a wide variety of materials (including wood, metal, bronze, resin, and glass) and developed a rich formal vocabulary – but the themes of peace and nature remain consistent. Some attribute this influence to his Buddhist Shinto roots. His sculptures can be seen around the world in public spaces, museums, and in many private collections. His work is often referenced in conjunction with such contemporaries as Isamu Noguchi, Constantin Brâncuși, Barbara Hepworth, and Henry Moore, who are associated with modern abstraction and biomorphism. Tetsuo Harada is one of the last living giants of this era, continuing to innovate while using time‘s immemorial stone-carving techniques.
He studied at Tamabi University in Tokyo with Professor Tatehata, Beaux-arts de Paris with Professor Colamarigny, and Jean Cardot.
He now lives and works mostly in Paris, and carves stone in his large studio near Chartres in the Eure et Loir region, France.

Il a acquis une renommée mondiale pour son thème pacifiste "Earth Weaving", symbolisant la fraternité entre nations par des liens de pierre. Au cours de sa longue et prolifique carrière, il a exploré un large univers de matériaux (bois, métal, bronze, résine, verre) et développé un riche vocabulaire formel, mais les thèmes du pacifisme et de la nature restent constants, certains attribuant cette influence à ses racines bouddhistes Shinto. Ses sculptures sont visibles partout dans le monde, dans des espaces publics, des musées et de nombreuses collections privées.
